Trix Eastwood - interview for Virtual Bunch
Trix Eastwood is a Yoga & Sleep Coach and the founder of The Sleep Yogi. Additionally, she is a mother of two teenagers and a dog mom to Luna. Originally from Yorkshire, Trix moved to Jersey 18 years ago, intending to stay for a year or two but fell in love with the island and decided to make it her home.

In our conversation with Trix, we discovered why she became a Yoga and Sleep Coach, how practicing yoga can enhance overall well-being, and her favorite spots on the island to relax.

Can you tell us more about your personal journey with wellness and yoga, and how it led you to establish Sleep Yogi?

Although a Chartered Tax Advisor by profession, my journey into yoga and wellness began after a cancer diagnosis in my thirties. What started as finding ways to help myself, I soon discovered I wanted to help others too.

What inspired you to become a certified Nutritional Coach, and how do you incorporate nutrition and wellness coaching into your yoga classes and memberships?

The coaching qualifications I have (nutrition, sleep & stress management) seemed to be natural progression for me after I qualified as a yoga teacher. It’s hard to look at just one aspect of a person’s health & wellbeing. Everything is so interrelated!

For someone new to yoga or hesitant to try it, what advice would you give to help them feel comfortable and confident stepping onto the mat?

The most common thing I hear is “I’m not flexible enough for yoga”. And honestly, yoga isn’t all about touching your toes! I do promise however that you’ll get more flexible once you start. I always say, there’s a style and a teacher for everybody. So just give it a go!

What are some common misconceptions people have about the relationship between yoga, sleep and nutrition, and how do you address them in your coaching?

I think people often see things in isolation when that couldn’t be further from the truth. For example, how well you slept will directly impact your eating habits the next day and your likelihood of doing any exercise. Movement, like yoga, has a big impact on your digestion, gut health and sleep! At The Sleep Yogi, we take a whole mind-body approach to feeling great every day!

In your experience, how does practicing yoga contribute to overall well-being, including mental, emotional, and physical health?

Yoga has helped me overcome both physical and mental difficulties. It’s a crutch that I can return to whenever I need, whether that’s relieving aches from my newfound running obsession, to providing that mental stress release to enable me to sleep, yoga has so many ways it can be practiced.

Please can you share with us what does your typical working day look like?

There is no typical working day! Some days are spent filming in my kitchen (I essentially turn it into a makeshift “studio!) Other days are sat at the computer, editing videos or creating toolkits for the wellness side of The Yoga Hub. My favourite days are the ones when I’m experimenting and writing new classes. I get to spend the whole day doing yoga!

What aspects of entrepreneurship and running your own business do you find most fulfilling or enjoyable?

The most fulfilling aspect of the business is receiving feedback from someone telling you how they are now sleeping better or their back pain is gone. Knowing you’ve made a significant impact on their daily life.

Please can you share with us what do you enjoy most about living in Jersey?

I’ve lived all over the U.K. before moving here and the thing I love the most about Jersey is the sea. It’s cliche I know! Any day can be made better by a walk along the beach (whatever the weather!)

What are some must-visit places or hidden gems in Jersey that you would recommend to visitors?

I’m an East of the island girl so I best say Gorey! Lots to see, amazing restaurants and a fab beach cafe too!

Can you share with us your thoughts on the local cuisine in Jersey? Are there any favorite dishes or restaurants you would recommend?

I’m a regular at The Beach Cafe (Hungry Whale) on Longbeach, Gorey. Gorgeous location, fabulous coffee, and amazing pizzas too! In St Helier, you’ll often find me at Vinifera. Wine and cheese, what more do you need?!
